Founded in 2012, the Wellington Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (WCSA) is a not-for-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors made up of passionate community members who believe we need to invest time and energy in promoting a healthy and vibrant local food system.
The mandate of the organization is to support and promote learning opportunities that encourage sustainable food communities. This includes community outreach and education on sustainable agriculture through events, working with youth groups increasing their food skills and gardening knowledge, a pilot community garden plus oversight of the the historic farmhouse and demonstration gardens located beside the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus Ontario.
Funding for the work of the WCSA is provided by community grants and donations by individuals and local businesses. Initially much of our work was restoring and renovating the historic farmhouse and starting to cultivate the farmland. We have now established an annual calendar that includes Celebrity Chef Dinners and the Annual Fergus Whole Hog BBQ to help spread the word and raise funds.
